David Bennett didn’t know he would be tattooing back in the day. It was all sort of coincidental: he started hanging out around the shop after his first tattoo, and was eventually offered an apprenticeship. “I didn’t tattoo for a while. I just drew a lot, watched, and cleaned the shop.” After some time, David finally did his first tattoo and became hooked. Despite those fateful events, David still had his hardships with the industry. He even felt the necessity to do some underground tattooing to make money. But eventually, David came to the realization of what he wanted, and he was determined to get it and sort through all the bull to get to where he is now.
Despite (or is it ‘Because of…’) his experience with underground tattooing, he still believes there ought to be stricter laws governing tattooing and health regulations. He’s also one who cares about the things he draws: “I draw what I want, I draw how I feel.” But when he first started, he admitted he was forced outside his comfort zone, which eventually made him versatile in other styles. “Eventually I took bits and pieces from the things I learned outside my comfort zone, and applied them to what I like to tattoo.” David thinks caring about what you do is essential to the individual.
David experience as an artist, and talking to customers, has made him “more well-rounded, and actually gotten to know myself better.” He puts a lot of emphasis on the fact that people are going to challenge him, and he has to produce good work because his name is attached to it. “My customers put a lot of trust and faith in me, and I try to leave a lasting impression. I like to have a good time, and not only give someone an amazing tattoo, but with a amazing experience!
